Electricity: 

SEMO (Southeast Missouri) Electric's service area is 75 miles north to south and east to west in the Bootheel region of Missouri. From its humble beginnings with a few lights on a farm homestead, SEMO Electric today serves thousands of homes, farms and businesses. From originally serving the counties of Scott, New Madrid, and Mississippi, the Cooperative also serves Stoddard, Bollinger and Cape Girardeau. In 1938, a group of farmers in Mississippi County in southeast Missouri came together to form a cooperative to meet the electrical needs of the rural area. The small band of forward-thinking farmers and area business leaders received help from the newly formed Rural Electrification Administration (REA). Today, SEMO Electric is part of a three-tier cooperative system. The power distributed by SEMO Electric is generated by Associated Electric Cooperative, Inc., based in Springfield, Mo. SEMO Electric receives transmission services from M & A Electric Power Cooperative based in Poplar Bluff, Mo. SEMO Electric's mission is to make people's lives better with electricity and broadband. Today, all member-consumers of the cooperative have access to world-class broadband services! SEMO Electric's Board of Directors voted to begin our fiber-to-the-home initiative in 2017. Please see our videos and review the news blog for our timeline and updates. Our fiber technology is high-speed, fiber-fast, reliable and convenient. And because we're of, by and for Missouri's electric cooperatives, we hold ourselves to a higher service standard.
