April 2020 | Prepare for Spring Storms, Annual Meeting

Posted: April 1, 2020 at 10:14 a.m.

With spring upon us, severe storms are forthcoming and could be devastating. These storms can take down power lines to create a dangerous situation for all of us, including Team SEMO. How long it takes to get your power restored depends on the extent of the storm’s destruction, the number of outages, and when it becomes safe for Team SEMO to get to the damaged areas. It is important we prepare for severe weather. Pay attention to meteorologists and listen to your gut. Take action to be safe and stay alive.

SEMO Electric Cooperative’s Annual Meeting is set for Monday, May 11 at the Miner Convention Center. The doors will open at 5 p.m. for snacks and live music with Brothers Walker. The business meeting will begin at 7 p.m. Please mark your calendar. You might win a door prize.

On a recent Saturday, my family had the opportunity to join more than 100 volunteers from electric cooperatives across the country for Touchstone Energy Cooperatives’ Community Service Project. We gathered early Saturday and boarded buses for transport to five work locations in a subsection of New Orleans. We joined Rebuilding Together New Orleans to assist deserving homeowners with painting, carpentry and more. Repairs made to these homes will be life changing for the homeowners and their families. As you deliberately help make other people’s lives better, you may discover your life is filled with more joy. #MakingLivesBetter

Did you know SEMO Electric is a Touchstone Energy® Cooperative? TSE is a national network of more than 700 electric cooperatives that provide resources to help member cooperatives and their employees better engage and serve their member-consumers.

Book of the Month: Emotional agility is a process that allows you to be in the moment, changing or maintaining your behaviors to live in way that align with your intentions and values. The process isn’t about ignoring difficult emotions or thoughts. It’s about holding those emotions and thoughts loosely, facing them courageously and compassionately, and then moving past them to make big things happen in your life.” Susan David – Emotional Agility

Be smart. Act safe.
