Current Opening: Systems Technician Associate

SEMO Electric Cooperative is accepting applications for a full time Electric Systems Technician Associate with a positive work/life outlook who will be responsible for providing prompt, courteous, and reliable services to member-consumers in southeast Missouri. The successful candidate will perform various duties related to the installation, removal, inspection, maintenance, testing of meters and meter equipment, member-consumer service including reading of meters and helping energy member-consumers understand energy use.

The position will be based at SEMO Electric's Sikeston office. Successful candidate must live within 35 minutes of the office. The Cooperative offers a strong wage and benefits package including NRECA retirement and insurance programs. Employee will be a member of IBEW Local 702. Job Responsibilities

  • Performs work on a variety of assignments, some of which require in-depth analysis to determine appropriate solution; uses a variety of complex tools and resources to solve problems.

  • Applies engineering standards; makes recommendations for electric metering processes and procedures.

  • Provides technical support to internal departments to address electric meter technical issues, member-consumer meter/billing accuracy, internal and external regulatory compliance analyses, and in the design of large and complex metering projects.

  • Develops relationships at the department, member-consumer and peer level; participates on teams as assigned.

  • Explains technical problems to internal/external stakeholders and accurately prepares detailed documents such as technical studies, project documentation for future reference, etc.

  • Provides technical support, troubleshooting and direction for new metering installations, the repair of damaged or inaccurate metering installations, AMI technology and the creation and maintenance of metering computer programs/software systems, including technician laptop updates and software support.

  • All other duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications 
Required:

  • Education and/or experience equivalent to a two-year degree from a college or university, with focus on engineering.

  • Demonstrated effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to use computer software programs (e.g., e-mail, word processing, spreadsheet, and project management).

  • Ability to work in a diverse work environment.

  • Must possess a valid Class E Driver’s License or a valid Commercial Driver's License.

  • Must be able to climb stairs and ladders, stand for extended periods of time, and will frequently be required to lift heavy materials. Contributes to a safe work environment by reporting accidents and unsafe working conditions, uses proper personal protective equipment, follows safety procedures outlined in Safety Data Sheets, and participates in safety training. Committed to continuously improving the quality and value of service provided to our customers. Will strive to not only meet, but exceed, member-consumer expectations in every interaction by providing personalized and professional solutions.

Preferred:

  • Electrical Engineering degree, within an engineering program that is accredited.

  • An internship or co-op in engineering. 

  • Strong project management skills.

  • Working knowledge of power systems and equipment such as generators, transformers, relays, switchgear, cable, low voltage circuit breakers, motor control centers, and Distributed Control Systems (DCS).

  • Working knowledge of the electric industry.

  • Strong knowledge of electrical safety codes and standards.
