Campers Learn, Share Best Practices

SEMO Electric Cooperative and GoSEMO recently held Camp SEMO, hosting Team SEMO’s Bruce Mathis, Directors Field LaPlant and Von Priggel alongside three visitors from Jackson Energy Cooperative in McKee, Kentucky, which is about 350 miles east of Sikeston. Jackson Energy serves over 51,000 members and maintains over 5,700 miles of line.

Camp SEMO is a dynamic two-day event encompassing indoor and outdoor activities, offering an immersive view of the cooperative's inner workings. It provides employees, directors, and fellow cooperatives an exclusive insight into Team SEMO's collaborative efforts in delivering electricity and broadband services to rural southeast Missouri.

Britney Mulcahy, the event coordinator at Team SEMO, expressed enthusiasm about hosting Camp SEMO, highlighting the valuable knowledge exchange between the team and visiting participants. "We not only enjoy hosting Camp SEMO but also gain significant insights from our guests as they share their experiences and ask about our practices," Mulcahy said.

During the camp, participants rotate through various departments, including safety, operations, member services, subscriber services, engineering design, mapping, metering, dispatch, fiber services, accounting and billing, construction, materials, fleet, vegetation management, and legislative and public relations. Additionally, they get to experience a 50-foot bucket ride with a lineman, enhancing their understanding of the cooperative's diverse operations.
