Applying for most jobs outside of fast-food joints and retail stores at a young age, you are often told you do not have enough experience to qualify for the position. But that was not the case for me here at SEMO Electric Cooperative about a year ago. To say I am blessed is an understatement when it comes to this opportunity.
Knowing I was going to be the youngest Team SEMO member at 19 was a bit intimidating, to say the least. I was confident I would need to prove myself by showing I was eager to learn and assist in any way possible. But to my surprise, everyone at the cooperative welcomed me with open arms and has assisted me in learning every chance they get. The entire team has been eager to see me grow and learn.
I was hired in the fiber department as a Subscriber Care Representative. I truly enjoy talking to the subscribers each day and assisting members to the best of my ability. It is very heartwarming to hear the excitement from subscribers over the phone or face-to-face in the office, as they realize they are finally able to get fiber internet in their homes. Some of our members live in very rural areas and have never experienced decent internet at all in their area. To be a part of such a life-changing process for our members is very rewarding.
I have had a great welcome here at SEMO Electric Cooperative. The entire team has been a huge help, always asking if I need anything and letting me know I can come to them for assistance. This is my first adult job, and I could not have hand-picked a better team to start my journey with. I am very grateful for this opportunity at such a young age and thankful Team SEMO took a chance on me!
