Slips, Trips, and Falls Cause Significant Issues

John Arnold, training instructor for the Association of Missouri Electric Cooperatives (AMEC), recently addressed Team SEMO about the importance of preventing slips, trips, and falls in the workplace. He shared a concerning statistic that on a national level, slips, trips, and falls account for 25% of all workers' compensation claims and remain the leading cause of workplace injuries. While these incidents may seem minor, their impact on the well-being and productivity of individuals can be significant. However, John emphasized that many of these accidents can be avoided with increased awareness and precautionary measures.

As part of the Missouri Electric Cooperative Insurance Plan (MECIP), AMEC conducts six safety presentations annually for SEMO Electric's workers' compensation program. MECIP, established in 1993 after a comprehensive study, was created to save the cooperatives and their member-consumers substantial sums of money. The program's success has resulted in millions of dollars in savings, which have been reinvested back into Missouri's electric cooperatives. This has played a crucial role in mitigating the rising costs of workers' compensation insurance. To date, the savings achieved through MECIP have surpassed an impressive $10 million, benefiting SEMO Electric's member-consumers and contributing to a safer and more financially stable cooperative.

By prioritizing safety and taking proactive measures to prevent slips, trips, and falls, SEMO Electric continues to foster a secure work environment for its employees and enhance the overall well-being of the cooperative.
