November 2023 | Gratitude

Gratitude holds great power. It banishes entitlement and gives birth to empowerment. Few things will alter your spiritual state faster than gratitude. More than an idea, gratitude is a way of life. It changes the way we feel about ourselves, life, and other people. It’s a mind-altering disposition even in the midst of life’s most difficult circumstances and an essential part of a balanced psychological diet.

As Thanksgiving approaches, Team SEMO (representing SEMO Electric Cooperative and GoSEMO Fiber employees) expresses gratitude for your support. We’re committed to providing reliable electricity and broadband services, and we value the importance of what we do for you and our community.

Regarding potential 2024 electricity rate adjustments, we’re diligently working on budgets, considering factors like rising energy prices, which have increased by 4.57% over budget and 7.53% compared to 2022 year-to-date. Fortunately, our power supplier, Associated Electric Cooperative, Inc., efficiently manages a diverse mix of power resources, keeping costs favorable.

Our annual budgeting process is weather-sensitive, given we can’t predict Mother Nature’s impact on electricity demand or storm-related damages. Any profits made are returned to our member-owners, not distant shareholders. Our commitment is unwavering: safely keeping the lights on and the fiber flowing. My guess, as of press time (September 25), we will see a slight increase in electric rates for 2024. Please check back next month.

Being a part of an electric cooperative ensures local jobs, cost-effective electricity, and exceptional service, regardless of economic challenges or supply chain issues. We aim to help you maximize the value of our services, such as energy bill savings through efficiency rebates. Remember, SEMO Electric’s members are our priority, and our core values – safety, accountability, intentionality, and respect – guide our service. This cooperative was created for you, and we deeply appreciate your support. Happy Thanksgiving!
