Devices to Stream TV

Tech TuesdayThis #TechTuesday is about which devices allow you to stream TV. There are three main devices that give your TV the capability to stream:

  1. Streaming Devices. Devices like Amazon Fire Sticks and Roku Sticks cost anywhere from $30-$50 depending on which style you choose. These devices connect to the HDMI port on your TV, giving you access to most streaming apps imaginable.
  2. Smart TVs. Most TVs nowadays are "smart TVs," meaning they have the capacity to connect to the internet and can download various streaming apps. Some Smart TVs have Amazon Fire Sticks or Rokus built in, allowing you to choose which Smart TV format is the most convenient for you.
  3. Gaming Consoles. Most newer gaming consoles have the capacity to connect to the internet and the ability to download various apps, including apps to stream TV.

When it comes to choosing one of these devices, it is ultimately up to you, which format you like better, and what you think will be the most practical for you and your family. If you want to keep your TV but add streaming, it is probably smarter to connect a streaming device or gaming console. If you're looking to buy a new TV, then it would probably be best to look for a Smart TV.
